2021: My Year In Books
After reading and listening to more books in a single year than I used to finish in a decade, I can say, wholeheartedly, that 2021 was the year of nonfiction.
Sure, I consumed some stellar fiction reads, but the stories that captivated and surprised me the most didn’t require high concepts or buzz, they simply were true stories told well.
Spanning memoirs to history, my nonfiction reads proved to be the genre that delivered most consistently – with a few notable exceptions – and had several titles became permanent fixtures of my library.
There are many people that shy away from nonfiction, fearing it will be too reminiscent of textbooks or dry classic tomes, but these readers haven’t encountered the right nonfiction. The story that can race your pulse in the same way as a thriller or lead to rich introspection like only the best art can.
If there’s one thing I ask of you in 2022 (besides common decency to your fellow humans and planet), it is to embrace a book that challenges your perception, expands your world view, and opens your heart.

Reviews for each of these books can be found on this website, and I’ll post a summary of the best and worst reads and listens from this list over the next few days. Thanks to Goodreads for, once again, doing the design work for me!
